In this episode, we sit down with Vanessa to talk about the realities of office life, the importance of taking care of your health, and how small, intentional changes can make a big difference both at work and at home.

We share workplace experiences, discuss the everyday challenges that come with balancing work and personal life, and explore the idea of "micro adjustments"- small habits and mindset shifts that can improve productivity, reduce stress, and create lasting positive change.  From staying active during the workday and building healthier routines to finding balance outside the office, we dive into practical tips that anyone can apply.

Along the way, we reflect on lessons we've learned, laugh about relatable office moments, and remind ourselves that personal growth doesn't have to come from major life overhauls.  Sometimes the smallest changes lead to the biggest results. Vanessa also shares her life outside of work and shares her journey to becoming a wrestler!

Whether you're working in an office, remotely, or simply looking for ways to improve your daily routine, this conversation offers a mix of humor, real-life experiences, and actionable ideas to help you become just a little better every day.

SPEAKER_03

This is Sergio Says It Straight. Straight talk. Real people. No filter. Say it straight or don't say it at all.

SPEAKER_04

All right, here we are, another episode. Thank you for everybody for tuning in. Today I have a guest by the name of Vanessa. We'll just say Vanessa.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

We're going to talk a little bit about office life, uh, maybe some health and then some adjustments uh if you are an office worker. But we're going to get into some other stuff too, not just office life. Um Vanessa, thank you for coming. Thank you for joining us today. Thank you for the invite. Oh, yeah, for sure. Um, if you can just kind of tell us a little bit about yourself, like a brief intro about who you are.

SPEAKER_01

Um man, depends on the day. Um I am a mother, wife, case manager, sister, friend. Um, I collect miniatures. I love a good little miniature, but they have to be working.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

So if it's a miniature and it doesn't work, then I'm not about it. Um, I just recently found a new love for Legos for my son. I have a four-year-old son. So we've been into that. I remember those days. Hundreds of dollars. I'm sure it's gonna be thousands of dollars by the time.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's gotten nuts right now. Um, I'm into I've always been into, you know, health, feeling good about yourself, but you know, with with the last 10, 15 years, it's more just like less about how other people see me and more about how I feel.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. How I should be. That's good. That's good, obviously.

SPEAKER_01

So, you know, and you can't do that right away off the bat. So um, yeah, that's that's basically me in a nutshell and just blinters off.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Depending on the day.

SPEAKER_04

All right. So we'll probably get to know a little bit more about you. Uh so like the today's topic, once again, it's it's more on I guess those of you that have worked in an office are working in an office. You know how office life sometimes can be a little chaotic. Um, it's just sometimes you need to talk about these kind of things. And so what about office life do you think is important to discuss? Being that you're a caseworker, obviously. Um I'm once again, I'm I'm I work in an office setting. Um, so what do you think is are things that we need to discuss or need to know about office life?

SPEAKER_01

I I think an important part is that you are not just your office, right? You are not just living in the office. And I feel like some of the people that I work with, it's like that's what they do, it's their whole life. Like that you don't want to share more than just what they do in the office.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, I think we need to be real. Like, you know, these are the things that kind of make me happy outside of the office, and it's okay. Yeah, you know, and it it's hard, I think, because you know, the old school mentality was just like work, work, work, like yeah, don't share anything else, right? Right. Um, so I think that's that really helps somebody just be healthy, like mentally in the office, right? Because otherwise it's like you're just gonna just just push yourself through the workday, do what you can, get it done, and it's like you didn't have fun.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I think that um sometimes we get so caught up and you even forget to like take your breaks, take your meal, you know, your meal breaks. I know I am guilty of it because there's so much pressure to complete these tasks, multiple tasks at once, actually. Expectations sometimes seem that they could be a little unreasonable, you know, depending on what your role is in the office. Yeah, and I know that and I I know you you know, coming from we share some of the same things, uh experiences, I know that expectations sometimes, once again, are unrealistic. It can cause burnout, it can cause fatigue, whatever the case is. Everyone's a little different, obviously, but we have to take sometimes you gotta take a little step back and kind of see analyze like what do I need to adjust, what I need to fix in order for me to be able to be productive, but at the same time take care of myself, right?

SPEAKER_01

So in all the ways, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And I know I think you were you were you kind of involved in wellness for a bit.

SPEAKER_01

Um yes, yeah, right. Yeah, I I was involved like the wellness committee, but um it started to be more centric around the food, like overall well, yeah, yeah, yeah. So I kind of took a step back there. Um, but yeah, like for me, I think it's just it the overall, like yeah, you you need to take care of yourself, like look out for number one. Trying to be selfish in that way.

SPEAKER_04

You do, and I've I've preached that before and I've said it and mentioned it in a couple of episodes. Like, if you don't take the time for yourself, uh, I mean, you're it's just not healthy. It's just not healthy at all. And I know that there's expectations out there, but you have to make that time. What about you? Like, I know I have my wife here, Milena. I know you work in an office setting too. And what is it like for you?

SPEAKER_00

Very similar, like uh Vanessa's saying, um, you get so focused in the day-to-day, and which is not healthy, right? You forget to take your breaks. Sometimes you eat lunch in front of your monitor instead of stepping away and taking that time to maybe recollect, focus on yourself, go for a walk, um, which is something that I've actually been trying to do lately.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. So the beginning of the year, I started taking my breaks and making sure I hit like one mile in the morning, one mile in the afternoon.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, and then step away for lunch.

SPEAKER_01

And out after lunch, 10-minute walk, that's when you're gonna get the most bang for your buck. Well, there you go. I'm gonna include that to you.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Did not know that.

SPEAKER_00

Everybody add that to your notes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Um, I I I personally think that, and I don't know, I don't know, people might disagree, but I don't think five two 15-minute breaks is enough in the day. Yep. Uh, and your 30-minute lunch. I mean, you need to get up and stretch every once in a while. I don't know what the recommended is, but I just know that 15 minutes twice a day is not.

SPEAKER_01

Well, listen to your body. Yeah. Like, right? If you're starting to feel numb, like and some people, you know, they they feel like, oh, it's not time. Yeah. Your body doesn't know time.

SPEAKER_04

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Like it just knows your circadian rhythm, like how you feel in the day. Like, if it's not time for a break, stand-up desk. Like, do something.

SPEAKER_04

And you see a lot more of the stand-up desk now, I would say, than before. I mean, I have one.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And uh, I think that now, if you go, if I get out of my office, I walk down, look at all the cubicles, just about everybody has one now. Yeah, you know, and I think it's yeah, and I think it's yeah, and everybody um it's a benefit, obviously, and it helps you get through the day for some more than others. Um, and like me, I have bad back problems. I mean, I was in the Marine Corps for you know a long time. My wife, too. She can tell you, and that when I wake up in the morning, sometimes I have to roll out of bed because I have bad knees, bad back, bad neck, everything you name it, I have bad everything. So I have to basically make sure that I feel comfortable at the office. And if I'm eight hours a day, I mean, sometimes longer, because um I'm salaried, so I don't necessarily do eight hours a day. Sometimes I'm working on Saturdays, sometimes I'm working early in the morning, later on in the evenings, and I just have to make sure that I'm comfortable. Um, so just keep that in mind when you're in your work space, yeah. You know, make sure.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, use the resources because I know that I have we have a lot of sitstands in our department as well, but people don't use them. They they cry for them, we give it to them, and then they come to the complaints are through the roof, yes, the follow-through is like, no, no, it's not there.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, and that's another thing too. It's like, you know, you there's a lot of valid complaints, you know. A lot of people have valid points and things that yes, we need to address that, but it just takes so long in certain work environments, and you know, I'm not gonna mention any places, but oh yeah, it takes a while.

SPEAKER_02

They're very good.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, you gotta go through this individual first, and you gotta go to that department, and then it has to go to HR or whatever, and then it has to go to these other people, and then it's like by the time it gets back to us or you know, employees, it's like, okay, well, we already take care of the situation ourselves, yeah, you know, in a lot of cases. So I don't know. That's just me.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I mean, yeah, you you gotta make it, you know, your goal for the day is to get your water in too. Yeah, like right. A lot alight and I know a lot of people are like, Oh, I don't want to drink water because I don't want to have to use a restroom.

SPEAKER_03

It's like that shouldn't water is essential, you know.

SPEAKER_01

You know, and there's been studies about like back pain with hydration, yeah, like a lot of the disc issues. Like, are you hydrated? Just that.

SPEAKER_04

I know we're always like harping on each other, like, hey, are you drinking water? Drink more water.

SPEAKER_00

I haven't seen you drink water, drink some water.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, and it's that's it's always the case. But I mean, just being that we, you know, we came from the Marine Corps and uh water. I mean, how many times did we chug water a day?

SPEAKER_00

Water was life. It was life. You had to.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, so water was essential, and uh, yeah, it still is.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I mean it's not just the water, it's like the electrolytes too. Yeah, your potassium, yeah, magnesium, yeah, a little bit of sea salt in there.

SPEAKER_04

See, but a lot of people don't know that, right?

SPEAKER_01

Oh my gosh, in the office, oh I have a headache. I'm like, just get some salt, get some water, put it in there, a little bit of lemon. They're like, oh no, I need like Tylenol or whatever.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. And is there enough people out there, you know, that, or like I say, in the office setting, is there somebody that's you know, assigned? I know we have wellness and stuff like that. Oh, I wish who, you know, in some places, I don't know. I don't know about you, Midlane, but uh in your environment, is there somebody that that talks about health or anything like that?

SPEAKER_00

Yes, we actually do have a uh wellness um committee as well.

SPEAKER_04

And but do they speak health though? Do they give you like tips and like this is what we need to do and make improvements for people?

SPEAKER_00

Like instead of having to say yes, I do see the newsletters come through, and that's through um the bigger uh department. Um you guys probably have a lot more. I was just gonna say, but how many people actually pay attention? They don't, they don't.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I mean, it's just one more thing to have to read in your day, right?

SPEAKER_00

Like when you can get your work work done.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Another email that you have to sort through when you're trying to tackle five, ten, fifteen things at one time.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, it'd be amazing to have like one point person per office. Like, hey, this is what's going on with me today. Like, is there any tips that I can do right now?

SPEAKER_04

Right. And I think that's a big thing that we're missing out in the workplace. Um, and I I keep going back to the military, and I don't know why, but this, you know, I've spent so many years in the military.

SPEAKER_01

How many years were you in there?

SPEAKER_04

We're we're both 20 years, retired. So um, the thing is this like everything in the military, there's some some somebody assigned to be in charge of you're in charge of health, or you're in charge of this or the other. And we did have somebody that was in charge of health, and we would have nutrition classes, and we had people from the outside come in and give us all these different uh I don't know. We had conferences and all kinds of stuff. So I think that's something that it's missing, maybe because it's the military, you know, and it's like you we have to be health consciously. But more people too, yeah. You know what I'm saying? We all have bodies, right? I think that's what the emphasis was, you know, we were in. But it's I think we don't we miss that out in you know, oh completely whatever organization you work for. Um, I don't know, maybe some places like Google or something, I don't know. Big corporations. I mean, they may have something that helps with that, but I know where where I work, yeah, nonprofit sectors, yeah. We don't usually get any of that stuff.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, we they have to be careful where they place the money and sometimes, you know, their biggest resources, which is staff, is not their top priority.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, but if you focus on that, you know, people will stay longer, people would want to be around.

SPEAKER_01

You would feel good, yeah. Like in your day, yeah, be like, oh, this is feeling good. I'm gonna do this longer.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. So what about health? What do you think about health when it comes to office life? Do you have any recommendations or for yourself or in general?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I mean, for myself, I every day for the bad past um I want to say six years, I actually have my coffee here. Yeah. Um, so I have coffee, there's coffee, right? Just black coffee, gelatin, beef protein, and MCT oil.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Every morning. So you you drink black coffee every day?

SPEAKER_01

That well, black coffee with all that other stuff. Oh, so you mix it in there.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, okay. Oh, wow. Yeah. So you never heard of that.

SPEAKER_01

Hot coffee, blend it all up.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Um, so I mean, just right there, that's like 40 grams of protein in my coffee. So do you like that? I'm gonna have to get that restrained.

SPEAKER_04

You don't really have to have a a meal. That's it right there.

SPEAKER_01

Right here. Oh, wow. To be honest with you, like I can go like almost a full day. Like, I don't feel like that need. Because it's it's also fats. The MCT oil, it's gonna fuel your brain, yeah, get you ready, puts you in ketosis. Like, it's you're gonna be on fire with that.

SPEAKER_04

When you mean ketosis, does that mean like it puts you in a state of like um using ketones in your blood?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, okay, okay, okay. Yeah, yeah, okay. So fat burning, pretty much.

SPEAKER_04

And that's what you want, obviously. Oh, I didn't know that.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah. It's like I swear by it, people are like, oh, let's go out for coffee. I'm like, yeah, I'll go. Yeah. But yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

So you mean I don't have to go for a three-mile run every day?

SPEAKER_01

No, you don't. No, you do not have to wear down your body. You know, check out all those studies. What's the number one thing you could do for yourself? Yeah. Is lift weights.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, really? Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_01

Especially women too. After menopause, weightlifting, double your protein.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, well, you do you do weightlifting. I started, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I I mean, after the military, I gained a lot of weight. Um, we we gain a lot of weight, and I'm trying to get back in shape, but it's taking longer than um expected. But yeah, any little tip, I mean that is that's a great tip.

SPEAKER_01

It and I'm telling you, you can like go grab and go kind of thing too.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we need that recipe. If we can share, yeah, that'd be great.

SPEAKER_01

Um, yeah, so that for me, and then um I also to after I have that, I take my bone broth every day. Okay. So, you know, I I get mine at either Costco or Sprouts. We just recently got a sprout, so I know. Yes, I've been to it. Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_04

Right here in the Central Coast, and we're happy we got a sprouts now. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So um, yeah, my bone broth. And then after that, I just have like more protein-centric lunch. Yeah. Like whenever I get hungry, that can be one o'clock, that could be four o'clock. Like, I just go kind of how I'm feeling.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. Um so do you do you do like um like I know, you know, you have breakfast, lunch, dinner, right? Those are the main do you do like um like five meals a day, small meals, or because I know some people do that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So for me, I I feel better if I just have bigger meals. Okay. So I'll have like lunch and then dinner. Like this is my breakfast. Okay. My coffee and then bone broth is like that's my breakfast, you know, brunch right there. Um, you know, I if I go out or whatever, I'll have the meal, but um, my day-to-day, okay, that's what it is, and then lunch and then dinner is usually more than lunch.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

So that's how I kind of feel. I work out later in the day, so I feel like I do like that meal after.

SPEAKER_04

And that's one of the questions I was gonna ask is like, what's better, working out in the morning, you think, or working out in the evening?

SPEAKER_00

When you're gonna do it.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, so it doesn't matter, right?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. If I don't do it first thing in the morning, it doesn't happen.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And and with kids, right? Yeah, like I have one, and I would not even know how I would get it done otherwise.

SPEAKER_04

Luckily, all our kids are grown already.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, we have- We have four, but they still keep us busy.

SPEAKER_04

Two of them, three of them are adults already, and then one's a teenager, but they also live at home, but they're also needy, yeah. I mean and it's different needs, too.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, it is. I get it gets harder once they're older. Yeah, it does. Yeah, I bet. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But I remember the four, the four year old, you said four-year-old.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, that's and he is the ball of energy. As I was just gonna say, he must keep you going, and that's why I work out. I'm like, I want to be able to pick him up, throw him like it doesn't have to just be dad that does those things with him, you know. Like I I love like playing around with him too.

SPEAKER_04

So having a child now, right? Four-year-old, and working in the office, obviously, you had to make some adjustments from when you came back in. Um, and how what was that like? Because I don't think a lot of people talk about that. No, I mean, my wife can obviously she knows how how that how that goes, but office life, um, what adjustments did you have to make, if any?

SPEAKER_01

So from a to office life or to like motherhood.

SPEAKER_04

Well, like to the office now, now being a mother.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you know, um, you know, it it's you have to prioritize yourself.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like do what you can when you can and don't say like, oh, I didn't do 10 out of 10, so I'm just gonna scrap the whole thing. Okay. It's never gonna be perfect.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like when when my son, you know, was a newborn, yeah. Like I had him in the little swing in the garage. I work in the garage, I have my setup there.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Um, you know, just do what you can, honestly, and don't judge yourself on what you're not doing.

SPEAKER_04

Right.

SPEAKER_01

You know, and that's that's it.

SPEAKER_04

Because people are quick to judge. People are quick to judge, quick to point fingers and like, oh, what is she doing? You know, when you're out there. Like, I mean, we're all guilty of it.

SPEAKER_01

She's being so selfish. Oh, she's you know, she has to get her work done in. I I'm I'm cooking dinner in the middle of my sets. Like, it's you know, you you do what you have to do until like you know, he's gonna get older. Right, yeah. This is just a season, yeah. And reminding myself, like, it's not always gonna be like this.

SPEAKER_04

Right, it's not, it's not. It gets better, it gets better if time goes on as time as they get older, obviously. And then uh I mean, I don't know about you, but uh sometimes I kind of wish our kids were back when they were four or five years old. I mean, there was because it I mean it was easier to um I don't go, I guess, control in a way as they get older. I mean, they have their own minds, obviously, and they're gonna be doing their thing, regardless if you agree or not. So enjoy it. Enjoy it because once they're loose, you can't put them back in the box. Yeah, it's true. Um let's see here. Um, anything health-wise, anything else that you can think of health-wise that you can maybe give suggestions or yeah recommendations of any kind?

SPEAKER_01

I mean, like I said, after your lunch, if you can take a 10-minute walk, that's gonna help you. There's been studies that it's better than metformin. Okay. In the diabetic control medication. Mm-hmm. Okay. So that that's really gonna help you. So anything tied to longevity is like just maintaining your insulin level, right? Like you want to remain steady. Yeah. Because those fluctuations is where you know puts pressure on your whole system. So steady state that that that's the goal, right? Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Steady, right? Yeah. Um, did you actually take any courses? Or did you just I was gonna ask because you sound like you have a lot of knowledge, obviously. Um, and you take this seriously, you care about your health and all that, um, and wellness. So just kind of out of curiosity, yeah, Google, just kind of your own research.

SPEAKER_01

How did it get started? How did it get started? So, my mom actually, she's always been, you know, kind of a hippie in that way, like where she's more of like the healthy. Like, I remember growing up, we would go buy. Do you remember that Roman bread?

SPEAKER_04

Yes, I do. And the orange packaging, I do remember it.

SPEAKER_01

Like, we would have to like go to like this little random health food store that like they maybe had two packages of that Roman bread.

SPEAKER_02

Oh wow.

SPEAKER_01

Um, and you know, little by little, like I started like wanting to know more. Um, so both both my parents come from uh Mexico. So they're both born in Mexico. So we do also have the traditional food, right? Gotcha, which was different from because I mean Mexicans don't really like eat bread, right? Like tortillas is what we eat. Yeah, tortillas, right? And like the carbs and stuff. Yeah, but it it's it's interesting because my mom never had me like feel like, oh, this is what we're gonna eat. No, this is our traditional, right? I was kind of like a little bit whitewashed in that way. Okay, okay, but in a good way because she would always try to get like the healthier options.

SPEAKER_04

Like so, she was health conscious, obviously. Want to make sure you guys were good growing up, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Very health conscious, and I mean, even growing up, she'd wake up at four o'clock, go to the gym, get her workout in, oh wow, so she can come back, you know, and and be ready for the day.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um, which um and my dad, he was complete opposite. He's like, oh, you know, my macho Mexican link. He's like, no, I don't need the gym. Like, I'm look, I'm already strong. But um, you know, actually it's it's funny because now my dad, he's he's on medications. Um, and my mom is 70. My dad's 75.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

My mom no medications at all.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, that's good.

SPEAKER_01

She just takes her supplements. So just seeing that growing up, yeah. Um, with that, oh, I've always like kind of wanted to know more. And I'm I love science. So I'm a science free. Like, give me the studies. I know it's boring to some people, but oh no, no, no, no.

SPEAKER_04

I like that kind of stuff. I think my wife does too, right?

SPEAKER_01

Yes, I mean give me the breakdown.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I want to know.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So um I've always liked that. And then when I was about 20, 21, um, I actually lost my period. Oh. So there I was like, there's something going on. Yeah. So I was um the they said I had PCOS. So I went to the gynecologist. I had PCOS. Polycystic ovarian syndrome.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01

So now just recently, about a month ago, they changed the name to PMOS.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Um, because it's more about like the insulin resistance and how your body like fluctuates with the hormones and how it it there's a whole yes, yeah, yeah. Um so then you You know, I went to the doctor, they put me on birth control. What I was on birth control at 21 for three months, right?

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_01

I exploded. Like I had no waste. I gained 30 pounds. Oh, and I'm not a crier. I would cry randomly throughout the day.

SPEAKER_04

You know, there's a lot of you know, medication. We're kind of going through something right now with one of our um children. The medication a lot of the side effects are gaining weight. And we noticed that getting bloated, retaining water or whatever the case is, right? Oh my gosh, yeah. Water retention. So I don't I don't know. Sometimes like you take medication for certain things, but there's so many side effects to it. You gotta be so careful. I've talked this, I talked, I've talked about this in the past where I mentioned that I was on 13 medications at one point. 13 medications, and you can ask my wife, I was like a zombie. I I I was not myself. I felt I've always was like I was always fatigued, I always felt like I was hungover. I just I just didn't feel like myself. And I started taking myself off these medications by myself without any doctor, um, you know, whatever cons consultation or guidance, and I ended up getting worse because um I just whatever the chemicals in my brain, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then my wife didn't know about it, and she was like, What are you doing, dude? Why are you not taking your medications? And I had just I got so um afraid of like all the side effects that you hear, and then 13 medications at one point. I'm like, dude, I'm I'm gonna and how you feel too, yeah. Like I'm not gonna have a liver or whatever, you know, and um so it just kind of made me think of that again. That although we do take medications sometimes, like we don't even know what's going on that might affect us in the long run or even right then and there, right?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. So what did you do, Vanissa?

SPEAKER_01

So I took myself off the medication that I didn't tell my doctor. Of course, because I I didn't feel myself, yeah. Like like you said, like I I was crying randomly, and actually in the middle of the night, you know, like how pregnant women they get those lay cramps. I was getting lay cramps every night, yeah, and what come to find out? It's because my magnesium was being depleted. Birth control depletes so many, yeah, so many of your minerals. And they don't they don't explain that to you. Yeah, they gave you the sheet that looks like one of those CVS, right? Like, oh here, yeah, read it.

SPEAKER_04

All the fine detail.

SPEAKER_01

That's supposedly informed consent, right? But I I didn't read that, right? So I just I took myself off and I actually did um since since my mom, she she's already kidding, she was already like into all this stuff. So I asked her, I was she was like, Oh, I have this like liver detox thing, right? It was supposed to be for I think it's 11 days. So I did it for a full month because I was like, nope, I'm just gonna get this out of my system. So since then I kind of I I shifted what I would eat, you know, and especially being so young at 21. Like you're you know, I was I was doing the college thing, hanging out, like, and I didn't know that alcohol affects PCOS in that way too, with the whole insulin, right? So more's coming out about it, but I just kind of I went off of how I was feeling.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Um I mean your body's gonna tell you, right?

SPEAKER_01

Your body's gonna tell you. Yeah, we just need to listen. You need to listen, but then you're listening and you're like, okay, now, but where do I go? Right? So it was kind of like, you know, yeah, the what what foods are gonna make me feel good? So it was around that time where it was like more like, okay, the the leaner meats, right? To stay leaner, all that stuff, flash fats.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So I did that for a while and I I was doing okay, like um, I was doing better, and then I was reading more studies about like just steaks, beef, right? What the what they do for you. So I did more of that, and then after like two clo almost close to two years, yeah, my period came back.

SPEAKER_03

Oh naturally. Wow, that's a long time.

SPEAKER_01

It was a long time, but because I feel like I wasn't giving myself enough nutrition because you know what I mean? Like I was I was drinking way more than I drink now, right? And then I was I wasn't eating enough, I was going to college, stressed out, all this, it's gonna just affect your body. So um, yeah, after two years, I got my psycho back and I've had it since. Like, no problem.

SPEAKER_04

Is that something that's common or more common than you would think?

SPEAKER_01

Okay, honestly, especially in the Latino community because of insulin resistance, yeah. And you know, with um it a lot of the a lot of women's like, oh yeah, I have facial hair, but it's just kind of like what happens, right? Facial hair, or like maybe the really bad period cramps.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like you're not supposed to have bad period cramps, like it's it should be I mean, I don't know anything about, but I was gonna say, people as women, we think that's normal. Like sometimes I have really bad cramps and sometimes I don't.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And it's it's about kind of how you set yourself up, your body like the month, month and a half before. Oh, right. So you can actually ate what you did. Like if you were kind of eating a little more, like we're having a party, we went on vacation, the next month you're gonna have more cramps. Uh so really, I mean, and that's that's the fascinating part for me. It's like, how does it affect that? Yeah, and I can change how I feel like in a month, month and a half. I mean, even as a man, yeah, it affects you, although you don't know.

SPEAKER_04

I I believe it. I trust, I'm getting older, and my wife was like, dude, you're getting a little more sensitive now, or whatever. Um, and I I know, I know. I I wasn't like I used to be a freaking, I don't know, more of an asshole back then. Yeah, I guess you would say. And uh now I mean I'm not I don't know. But now I was like, yeah, you I don't know, your body starts to change, you start to evolve, and you know, you know, an older person, obviously. You know, I'm I'm gonna be hitting that um I don't know, the midlife thing here soon. So 5.0.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. 5.0.

SPEAKER_04

So who knows, who knows what's coming, right? But I've seen it in I've seen it in like uncles, where it's like, you know, what you just said, um, they start to change. And I don't it's I don't know, something that I guess I'm gonna have to deal with when I get older.

SPEAKER_00

But yeah, but you could adjust now though.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, no, no, yeah, yeah, you're right. You're right, you're right.

SPEAKER_00

We need again the right path.

SPEAKER_04

And we do, we do. Being that we came from the military and stuff like that, like we used to take pride in like, oh my gosh, you know, health and all that. And I think we need to get back to it. I think our fun is over, babe. I think we're we're we gotta get back to it.

SPEAKER_01

That's the thing, it's it's fun feeling like like I don't think twice about the things I eat.

SPEAKER_04

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Like this, like I don't even have to think about it. I feel like a lot more people think more about what they're gonna have for breakfast than I do. Like, because I that's just like kind of what I do. Yeah, I feel good, I get to do what I want in my day. My stomach's not bloated. I don't feel like, oh, I've been constipated. You know, yeah, all these things you hear in the office, and they're sitting there eating like I don't know, a couple noodles, chips, hot cheetos, hot cheetos, and then you wonder why.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, why their stomach hurts.

SPEAKER_00

I'm like sitting here just really thinking about everything I put in my body. I'm gonna have to stop.

SPEAKER_04

I know. And you know, and we've tried to do like the healthy milk meal prepping and all that stuff.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, meal prep I don't do.

SPEAKER_04

I was just gonna say we don't do it anymore.

SPEAKER_00

It's a lot of work. It's it would take all Sunday. Yeah. So how do you prepare? How do I?

SPEAKER_04

Um by the on the fly?

SPEAKER_01

Well, we have a Traeger, so we do a lot of meats.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So I I will just do like chicken, steaks. Um, thankfully, my husband likes to use a Traeger.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, those things are awesome.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so we do we do a lot of that, and then I'll like I'll just do the veggies day of, right? Roast them in the oven while the Traeger's going. Um a lot of that honestly, like it does make a difference.

SPEAKER_04

Honestly, the what you how you eat, it does. I know there's been periods of time where we were doing the same thing, grilling chicken, you know, veggies, and you can see the difference, you know, and and it's just like you gotta be consistent.

SPEAKER_01

Consistency will always outlast like intensity.

SPEAKER_04

And then, you know, it doesn't hurt it. I mean, it doesn't help that on the weekends I'm like, dude, I'm gonna have a couple beers, and next thing you know, I'm like, oh, I've had 12 beers. And it's like, how's that helping me? It's not helping me at all.

SPEAKER_00

Well, you know the answers, right? Stop drinking. I know you just have to go through with it.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, you do. Yeah, and and that's something that I think a lot of people, me myself, need to make a change up.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and like, I mean, you can be healthy in the office too. Like, I tell one of my co-workers all the time, he's like, I don't, you know, I don't have time to like make food. I'm like, Do you have tuna? Do you like tuna? Yeah, like tuna, one can of tuna is do you know how many can uh the grams of potina had tuna in a while, but 43 grams of protein in one little can of tuna.

SPEAKER_04

But just like straight tuna, right? Like you don't mix anything.

SPEAKER_01

No, I so I'll put sometimes I'll put like um you know, like those to go guacamoles, like oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01

Or like I I'll put it like on celery or something, like whatever I have, honestly. Or like I'll use mayo. Like, so I'm pretty mindful of like if I haven't had enough of healthy fats during the day, I'll use mayo. I mean, all it is is just well, you have to get a good mayo. Oh, okay. Right, yeah. So, what's a good mayo? Turn that over. Um, there's one called, I think it's good foods. Um, they use avocado oil. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And it's just spices, avocado oil, um, egg yolks.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01

Like that's all good stuff that you can find it at Costco too.

SPEAKER_04

I think I've seen that one.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's it's like um, I think it has avocado on it, and then it has it's like green. Uh Costco has.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I do most of my shopping. It's either Costco or Sprouts. Okay. Okay. Yeah. That's those are my go-to's. All right. Um, but yeah, that's good to know. I mean, you know, just veggies, raw veggies. If that's all I can do, like I always have like celery, carrots. Um, I I do a lot of uh sauerkraut too.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

So um actually my son loves sauerkraut.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, he does?

SPEAKER_01

Like that's his snack of choice sometimes with sauerkraut. And you're getting him on the right path, which is awesome. You know, and and I sometimes think I'm like, oh, you know, like have him whatever, have the other stuff. But the thing is, is that like because I don't force it on him, it's just what's around. Yeah, it just kind of what he gravitates to. Yeah. And that's what I want to keep it as. You know, yeah. He's gonna have his stuff, you know, as he gets older, right? All this stuff, but you know, he his body's gonna feel better. Oh, absolutely. And he's gonna get that feedback right away. Yeah, you know, so um, yeah, just having good things around. And do you do carbs or or not at all? Yeah. So so I'll do I'll do carbs. What I'll do like rice, potatoes. Um, I love hikama. So that's a good uh oh my gosh, hikama is and it gives you the the prebiotics too, the prebiotic fibers. Okay, it's gonna feed your own. You include that in your meals, yeah. So I'll I'll include that. Um, I do a lot of pickles, cucumbers. Um, that's not carbs though. You ask carbs. Um so I I I will have like um I don't know, like tortillas, yeah, and I eat to what I'm doing too. Like if I'm just gonna be sitting around, I'm not gonna have like so many carbs, right? Like you're mindful of that. I'm mindful of that. Um, I love popcorn is my bias. Oh my gosh. I can eat so much popcorn, like a bag, yeah. You know, have you ever had um honey on popcorn? No, yes, yes. Oh my gosh, yeah, but all it is, it's just like popcorn, it's cool. Like, yeah, some people are like, oh, you know, you shouldn't have any like grains or anything. It's like, okay.

SPEAKER_04

Why not though? Why not grains?

SPEAKER_01

Slow down, like a lot of uh well, if if you're getting like really, really into it, like people say, you know, the anti-nutrients and grains and then completing you. But that's why I say, like, you know, eating healthier is still fun. Like, yeah, you you gotta find I mean it feels good, it feels good, and that's fun. Yeah, you know, and you honestly you look less inflamed, you're less bloated, you feel better, you can run faster, jump.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, and you I mean, speaking of like walking faster, jumping, whatever. Um, what about stretching? Like, is that something that you do in the mornings or throughout the day?

SPEAKER_01

Oh my gosh, I need to work on honesty. Okay, I do I try to do um like one minute stretching just like my I so I have hypermobility in my shoulders, so I try to stretch my shoulders, like make them feel good.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Um, I do a hundred jumping jacks just to get like my lymphatic system going, right? I've seen that. Yeah. Um, I do that. Uh my husband's a lot better at stretching, okay, to be honest with you.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And I always tell him, like, remind me to stretch too. But like for me, I'm always like go, go, go. So to slow down and stretch, I do need to work on that.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of stretching, but I know you have to do it. It's painful for him.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, my joints, I can't do it anymore as much as I used to before.

SPEAKER_01

But if you start practicing, I know, I know the more you do it, the more you would be able to.

SPEAKER_04

I need to just stop making excuses and get back to it.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, yeah, that's the thing. We we love to make excuses for ourselves because that's the only way we can sleep.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Um outside of like health, obviously, we talked a little bit about office. What else do you do? Or what are you into? I know you kind of talked a little bit uh, you know, in an in your introduction. Is there something that people would be like, oh my gosh, you do that?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um so actually, it it's been a minute since we've done a show, my husband and I, but um, I'm actually I do I do pro wrestling too.

SPEAKER_03

Wow. Yes, pro wrestling.

SPEAKER_01

My stage name is Lady Vane.

SPEAKER_03

All right.

SPEAKER_01

Uh-huh. So, you know, it's so there's heels and there's faces. Right. Right. Oh, I grew up watching wrestling. Oh, yeah, yeah. So are you familiar with heels and faces? Some so the f the baby faces are like the good guys, right? And the heels are like, you know, the Razor Ramones. Like they're not gonna give you a time. The bad guy. The bad guy, yes. Um, so my character, it's kind of kind of in the middle, kind of full of herself, but also like has likes to have a good time. Yeah, you know, high five sometimes, full of energy, full of energy coming out. Um, I actually, yeah, I I I got into it actually um because of my husband.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

So I met my husband through Facebook, through a mutual friend. All right. So I actually thought he was somebody else.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_02

Like catfishing or something?

SPEAKER_01

No, yeah, pretty much.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Um, and then one day he like posted like something about Subway.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Something you should know about me. I do not like sandwiches. Uh I don't know what it is, like the cold cheese getting stuck, the bread. It's just not good. Never ever. Yeah. Um, so I said, like, no, thank you, but if you're talking Mexican food, okay.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So then, you know, he he messaged me and he was like, hey, let's go out to Mexican food. Um, I I wanted to take it slow. So like three, four months later, we went to Mexican and then, you know, yeah, we we just hit it off.

SPEAKER_02

Hit it off.

SPEAKER_01

Um the third date, I believe, was one of his shows, his wrestling shows. Oh. In San Luis.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, I was gonna ask you what area. At the grad. Do you remember the grad? Yes, we we go to the grad preparedly. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So um it was at the grad, and he actually did one of those, you know, when he comes out, I was sitting in the stands. Yeah, he did one of those, oh, kiss me on the cheek. Oh. He he says I gave him the rudest face back. Like, what in the world are you doing? And he thought he messed up.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But um, you know, now fast forward, you know, he's my husband, so we know how that went. Um, but you know, I I would go to his show. So he had done it since he was in high school.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, wow. Is he from this area out here at Central Coast?

SPEAKER_01

Okay. So he he, you know, went all the all up and down California before I even met him. Um, and I, you know, I I just kind of got bored of being a jest in the stands. Yeah. And I was like, you know, like I've always been into like health and fitness. So I was like, I feel like I would fit in.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Right. So he's like, yeah, do you know just just come out with me and you know, do your thing. And you know, slowly but surely, like I kind of got my groove with it. I I had my own fans. Wow.

SPEAKER_04

So I'm sure you got a lot of followers then. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I had to have a separate account.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that is cool.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

How did you where did the name originate from? Lady Vane. Like, how'd you come up with that?

SPEAKER_01

So um, my brother, okay. He always called me Vane Nessa. Oh got it. It makes sense. Yeah, yeah. Of course, her brother would come up with that. So, you know, I I didn't want I I wanted to be like a variation of that. So, you know, I also I hold myself reprised, so I feel like I'm a lady. Yeah, yeah. So um, Lady Vane is where it came from. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And so you said I know you mentioned you haven't done a show in a while. Do you plan on in the future?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, actually, you know, we we've gotten a lot of inquiries like, hey, come back, let's do the shows. But it's hard because we have the four-year-old too.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Although actually we had a show where he came out with us and he debuted with us, bandana and everything. That's awesome. Here is that yeah, it was adorable. Um, but yeah, I mean, for for me, I don't do the moves that are gonna hurt me. Okay, right. So it's my husband, he takes all the all the hits, all the hard hits. Yeah, I'm I I'm more of the show, right?

SPEAKER_04

So I'll come in the entertainment part, the entertainment part, yeah. Which is very important. Oh, yeah completely.

SPEAKER_01

Like that's what people go for. Yeah, that makes the show. Yeah, so um yeah, it it all really just depends on when he wants to. Like, I'm I'm ready for it. Like, I like to stay ready for whatever. Like, I'm not one to be like, oh, that's something that I used to do. Like, I'm more like, well, can I do it again? Like, right.

SPEAKER_04

No, that's awesome.

SPEAKER_01

That's fascinating.

SPEAKER_04

When you started getting into it, um, like how what was the was there like a training regim that you had to go through, or so it was my husband, honestly.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so he actually he's he was one of the head trainers for vendetta pro wrestling at the time I was called. Um, and yeah, hitting those robes are no jokes.

SPEAKER_04

I bet, I bet.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my gosh, it was a technique, there's a technique, and also your body needs to just develop a callus. Oh yeah. I had like the hugest bruises on my back, like wells, because they're they're cables, yeah. Yeah, so they're their cables just covered like in a hard plastic. So you're hitting your back, boom, like it's it is hurting, and you're throwing yourself on the floor, like, and that's I think that's when after the training, I was like, you know, I don't think I need to be taking the moves, right?

SPEAKER_02

Right, right.

SPEAKER_01

Like, I think I'm more the show part, like so when when my husband, we were part of um, like it was like a tag team, kind of like a trio, yeah. Yeah, we're called the Starbucks. Oh, your favorite baby Starbucks. Yeah, yeah. Um, and so it it was one of uh Vintage Dragon was um my husband's tag team partner. My husband is Caden Anthony.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, so that's his stage name. That's his stage name. Got it.

SPEAKER_01

Caden Anthony.

SPEAKER_04

All right, shout out to Kate and Anthony.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, we we did a move. It was called uh triple espresso shot. Oh wow, so it was a triple power bomb, right? So I was the one in the middle holding them and then two on the sides, and we do a triple power bomb. So that was like our finisher move, right? Um, so I would do like different things like that. Um, I don't know if you're familiar with like the the free bird type situation. Yes, where you know, tag in. So I would come in, do a couple moves, and then they would like finish them off, right? Yeah, so they would take all the heat. Uh-huh. Yeah. Right. So um then I would come in, finish, done. Um, so yeah, it was, it was, it's actually really fun learning the psychology about it too. Because the whole part of the show is like you have to get the people invested, right? Oh, yeah, for sure. If somebody comes in, guns blazing, oh, this person's gonna win, win, win, done. Yeah, like you're gonna be like, okay, you know, that's what I thought it was gonna be. But whatever. Yeah, yeah, it's not gonna get you up out of your seat. So I think that was the most interesting part for me is like the psychology behind it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like, oh, this person, you know, they're they're gonna have to like be down in the dumps, but people are gonna think he's gonna win, but then not, and then you know, all this other stuff.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Where when I first watched it, watched it. So I used to watch wrestling with my brother. I was about like 12, 13, but I didn't watch it for the wrestling, for the technique. Like, I I just like the guys. I was I was into Billy Gunn, The Rock, Stone Cold. Yes, you know Degeneration X, right? Yes, yeah, so those are my guys. Yeah, and you know, I I just watched it for you know, the guys, yeah. Um, but now fast forward, it's like, oh my gosh, this whole time there's like the storyline behind it.

SPEAKER_04

You know, it's like a whole soap soap opera. Oh, it is, and it continues.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it yeah, and that yeah, that is actually such a trip that like people are so still into it. Yeah, you know, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

No, it's once you're hooked, I think you people really get into it. Like I I can I can tell you when I was in the Marine Corps Monday Night Raw. Um, what was the other one? Monday Nitro. They were both on Mondays, so we would be switching over the wars, yeah. Yeah, and it was like every Monday we would get together at whoever Marine's house was it for that week, and it was an event every Monday.

unknown

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And we were grown-ass adults, you know, in the Marine Corps, like watching wrestling, yeah, you know, for the drama, obviously. And I mean, I still love it too. I still watch it eventually some every now and then I watch wrestling.

SPEAKER_01

And that's the thing. I think it's funny how sometimes adult men don't want to say that they watch it. Yeah, but it's like it's entertaining. It's yeah, yeah. Yeah, you know, it's like, oh yeah, you know, I I watch wrestling or whatever. It's I think it's funny because it's like it's just like a show. It is, it is right. It's just like they're they can they're actually getting hurt sometimes.

SPEAKER_04

Oh yeah, yeah. Like you know, you go watch a

SPEAKER_01

Play, that's what it is, except they're hurt. Like they're oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_04

And then once you get invested in the storyline, I mean it's just like I need to know what's gonna happen next. So I'm gonna tune in next week, find out.

SPEAKER_01

If my guy won, yes, right.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, um, I was a big fan like the Royal Rumbles back back in the days. So I grew up in like the 80s, obviously. Um, Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, but I we really got into it. What was it? The um the attitude era with uh Stone Cold and The Rock. That was your era, right, babe?

SPEAKER_00

That's when I started watching. Yeah, yes. Yeah, can you still name the DX guys? No, no, no, I was just paying attention to them, the bodies, the physiques, right?

SPEAKER_01

The physiques.

SPEAKER_00

We actually did a show with X Fox.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, really?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, in a Tascadero. Oh wow.

SPEAKER_04

That's that's crazy. That's awesome.

SPEAKER_00

So, question are you were your uh matches um or wrestling, yeah, wrestling matches were they videotaped? Can we find them online? Yeah, can we find those? You can on YouTube.

SPEAKER_01

Um, yeah, you you can find them online for sure. All right, I'm gonna check them out. Yeah, I'll share that with you guys. And I want to see a show when next whenever you do. Well, they actually uh uh there's a company that runs out a lamp oh really like monthly. Oh and they they always try to get us to go, but it like I said, like it's up to my husband whenever he's ready.

SPEAKER_04

Like um yeah, is he is he kind of taking a break right now?

SPEAKER_01

Or yeah, yeah, okay, you know, because he's been doing it for a while.

SPEAKER_04

You know his back. Oh yeah, and that's what I was gonna ask. I'm I'm sure the takes a beating, yeah. Uh year after year, the physical you know, the the pounding, I'm sure it takes a major toll on your joints, your I mean your body in general. Um any surgeries or any big injuries?

SPEAKER_01

No, no surgeries, just like you know, like concussions, like he has like his back, like right, yeah. Um, no, no major surgeries, so no surgeries in general, but I think it helps to to be smart about it. Yeah. Um yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So we need to have you two come in here and talk about just that, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I was man, I was actually so mad at him. You know, not actually, but um, so like I want to say like seven months after he he went to Australia on a Hulkamania tour with Hulk Hogan. And you didn't go? No, I always wanted to go to Australia and he told me, Oh yeah, I actually just recently went on it. I was like, Are you serious? Why couldn't you have talked about like Subway like seven months ago?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I still haven't gone to Australia. That that would be like I want to go.

SPEAKER_04

So he was like on tour with like WWE.

SPEAKER_01

Oh wow, yeah, like BD Cake, like all those guys he he has. Oh, Bruce the Barber? Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I remember that guy. He came out with the scissors and everything. Yeah, he was a cool dude. Um but going back to you and like getting into wrestling, um is it something that you feel like because you know you take care of yourself health health-wise, and and you you obviously you work out and everything, is it something you need to keep up, obviously, because in case you ever go back into the ring or whatever, or is it just you know, is it essential?

SPEAKER_01

You know, for life, honestly. Like I I would I love that it translates to I can get in the ring, right? Do my thing, right? And I can still look like a wrestler, right? Do the poses, all that stuff. Um, but also just life in general. Like we just had like a team training day where we're doing tug of war, and it, you know, your girl won. Like I of course like just being able to just like go whenever you want to and not being held back by like, oh, I used to be able to do that. Yeah, right. Um, but yeah, it it just it lends itself to be perfect for yeah, whenever we do a show, like yeah, that's awesome.

SPEAKER_04

And and it's I know meant you just mentioned something like, oh, it sucks because I used to be able to do that.

SPEAKER_00

That sucks when you're like I know because we find ourselves saying that a lot. Oh, I used to be able to do that.

SPEAKER_04

I used to be able to run a marathon. I used to be able to do you know 30 pull-ups, whatever, and like now I'm like, I can barely do 10 now or whatever. And so that that that's gotta suck if if you ever get into that. Well, it does suck, not if you ever I know the feeling. Um, any tips for those that are got wanting to get back into fitness or just trying to stay healthy? I know you've you've already mentioned a whole bunch of things. Um, is it just doing it?

SPEAKER_01

Just doing it, just doing it, and there's not there's not gonna be a perfect day. Yeah, no, you know, you're the stars are not gonna align. Yeah, it's not gonna be a perfect schedule, like it's not gonna be the carved out time. Oh, it's I'm gonna get workout at this time. It's never gonna be perfect. And so just dropping that and doing what you can when you can.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You know, if if it's 10 minutes, cool. 10 minutes workout. Put throw better than nothing, right?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Weighted vest walks, like anything that you can do to where you can just feel better after, like and not like, oh, you know, I'm achy, right? Like it's gonna make all the difference, even like in the food, too. Yeah, you know, it's it's more about adding to what you can eat than taking away, oh, I can't eat that. Like, oh my like you said a little bit, you know, like my fun's gonna stop. No, like it's just gonna look different. Yeah, like it's it's fun to find things that are adding to your life and making you feel better.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And I think your body naturally adjusts to so when it gets used to getting a certain, you know, type of food, you know, you're you're you're putting into your body, and then you try something different that you used to have, and all of a sudden it doesn't taste as good or it doesn't feel good when when you when you consume it, your body's telling you like it's naturally already getting away from the bad things completely.

SPEAKER_01

And you know, that's the the beauty of it, but also kind of sad sometimes because you'll have like I used to love Skittles, but oh my gosh, like they're so sweet, they're so sweet, and like they stay in your teeth. I'm like, oh man, like you know, but like you said, like your body adjusts, yeah. Your body will love you so much more for it, too. Yeah, and like you know, your your whole digestive system, so your gut microbiome, yeah, it's you can change it very fast in a couple days, if not hours. So I think so it's like I don't know, you just need to like sit back, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, and I think I think our minds, I don't know, I could be wrong, but I think our minds are built to where we want to feel good. Like obviously we're not gonna we're not looking for pain, we're not looking for discomfort, we always want to look for what makes us feel good. And a lot of times food makes you feel good, alcohol for some makes you feel good. So I think if you you train your mind obviously a certain way, after a while, like you said, you just cut things off or whatever. After a while, your mind is just kind of like, okay, well, I don't need that anymore. Uh so I'm gonna start doing this to make myself better. But I think it's all it's it's a lot of it's just mind.

SPEAKER_01

Oh self-talk. It's just mind. Like I talk to myself throughout the day, like hey, what would you tell a friend trying to accomplish this?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, right. Yeah, yeah. Um working out, what's what's the go-to music? What's the go-to what gets you going?

SPEAKER_01

I I do love some Eminem.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, honestly.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, like the old school MM. Yeah, the old school one. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, yeah, MM, that uh, you know, a little bit of like the new stuff. Like I've been listening to um Little Dickie. Okay, the uh some of that, like whatever is like a good hype song.

SPEAKER_04

What gets you going, yeah?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, um, yeah, and I 90s music. I love 90s music, yeah. I'll all that.

SPEAKER_04

I'll do nineties all day.

SPEAKER_01

You know, I have pop rocks on my XFM, like please.

SPEAKER_04

Um you gotta have the right tracks and a mirror.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, I need a mirror. I've worked out without a mirror, and you know, you just don't I I I at least I don't, I don't feel as motivated. Like, I kind of like look at myself, talk to myself, you know, and you get to see the difference too.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, you see mirrors in the gyms all the time, so people are checking themselves out there. Yeah, and you know, you start to see the the whatever the evolution of your body, whatever. So, yeah, I mean motivation, obviously. Yeah, uh, it's nothing wrong with that.

SPEAKER_02

Nothing wrong with that.

SPEAKER_04

Um, what's what are things that are essential for a work, a good workout? Like if I'm gonna go to the gym today, you got you gotta have the right beats, the right tunes. What else is essential for you?

SPEAKER_01

Um, what I do, I do I sip on some electrolytes. Okay, honestly. Throughout my workout, I have my electrolytes. I used to do pre-workout, but I don't I don't know if that was serving me. I felt like way too jittery.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, yeah, I was gonna ask you. Yeah, yeah. I've heard that from a lot of people myself too. I experienced it. I just didn't feel like I got, I don't know, I just didn't feel right.

SPEAKER_01

No, yeah, let me tell you, I used to take one that was called Sidewalk Crack.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, just the name alone right there.

SPEAKER_01

Oh that is scary.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I think that was the last that that was the last one I tried, and then I kind of like shifted back, right? Yeah. Because you know, you you don't want to put your body into that much stress just to de-stress it. Like it it sounded kind of alter intuitive. So yeah, that doesn't sound good crack. Yeah, no, my my electrolytes, if anything else, maybe I'll do like an espresso if I'm kind of not feeling it. Like I said, I work out uh towards the end of the day, right?

SPEAKER_04

Right.

SPEAKER_01

So depending on what I need, um you gotta kind of re-energize, right? And my I mean, my son is there probably 85% of the time when I'm working out.

SPEAKER_04

So home gym?

SPEAKER_01

Home gym.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, yeah, yeah. My wife just started we we we put it we started putting a home gym together. We're not completely there yet. We gotta put the mirrors up.

SPEAKER_00

I was just gonna ask you, what do you have in your home gym?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I have like the that chest pool, you know, the I don't know what they're called. The machine. Yeah, that machine. Um so that you can do whatever on there. Yeah. Get back, chest, triceps, biceps. Um, so then I have just dumbbells too. Some some um push-up bars.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I got that. Um, I have some just weighted balls, medicine balls. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, throw those around. Actually, my son, that's what we do. Like in between sets, we'll throw around a 10 10-pound ball.

SPEAKER_04

And then he feels like he's part of it and you know, gets some excited, probably. Of course, has a good time doing it.

SPEAKER_01

And I don't want it to be like, oh, we have to. Like, I'm like, hey, I'm gonna come over here, buddy. Do you want to come join me? Like, yeah, let's just move our body.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I have a trampoline there for him. I actually I go on the trampoline too.

SPEAKER_03

Nice.

SPEAKER_01

One thing you know about me, I'm all about like your your lymph flow. So let's let's do that.

SPEAKER_04

Is it is that good for your body to jump on a trampoline? Like, oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, with your bone health, yeah. Yeah, and your lymphatic system. So your lymphatic system is the only system that doesn't go automatically. You have to move for it to move. Okay. So if you're not moving, it's stagnant.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, right on. I didn't know that.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, I I jump on there, like he'll push me off and say, No, Mom, it's my turn, but you know, I get my jumps in. Um, I also have a vibration plate. So I'll do that. Like when um when I'm feeling sick, I just want more like more movement, but without me having to move my body. That I have that. Um in 2020, I got myself a sauna because our gym shut down and I was like, I need a sauna.

SPEAKER_04

That's expensive, huh?

SPEAKER_01

But you know, for me, it's like invest in yourself.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like you're all things are gonna come and go, but you are your body.

SPEAKER_04

Now, when you're talking about the sauna, is it something that you need to do daily or or is it something you do periodically?

SPEAKER_01

I would love to do to do daily. Yeah, but I mean you can do it daily, but you can also do it periodically, it's never gonna hurt.

SPEAKER_04

There's no like right or wrong, right?

SPEAKER_01

Is there's no right or wrong, unless you're you're feeling like super depleted afterwards. You did it too long, right? Um, you shouldn't do it when you're pregnant.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, oh okay, there you go.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, do not do that. Yeah, um, but yeah, I I I wanted to get myself a sauna because I'm like, you know what? Like now's the time. Why not?

SPEAKER_04

Like I think I've seen them at Costco.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's where I got mine. Okay, I got it at Costco online. Yeah, we built it, yeah. And you put it in your garage, put it in the garage, yeah. And my my brother, he's Jack of all trades, electrician, architect, like you name it, he hooked it up.

SPEAKER_04

It's good to know somebody like that. Oh yeah, yes, saves a lot of money too.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and so going back to the sauna, what benefits are you getting from it?

SPEAKER_01

Well, it's if you go on the sauna, so they have what you call your body produces heat shock proteins. Okay, so that's gonna repair your muscles, like get it stronger, right? So these proteins, they only come into play when heat, right? Yeah, heat's gonna happen. Yeah, so it it just makes your your muscles stay. So, like let's say you break an arm, right? You cast it. There's been studies where if you go in the sauna, you won't lose as much muscle and it won't atrophy as much. Oh, so just that, like yeah, that's amazing. Add sauna to our list. Yeah, we need a sauna. Yeah, yeah, do do the podcast from a sauna.

SPEAKER_04

Let's see who lasts longest. No, yeah. We used to do sauna, obviously. We had access to saunas back in the days, but but not for the right reasons.

SPEAKER_00

No, oh, it was to lose weight, it was to like lose a pound or two just so we can make weight in the Marine Corps, yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But little did you know you're actually helping yourself, yeah, right? Like you could also like some people swear by it, like they grew, like got taller just because like it makes your help. I need that. I need that. Yeah, I I think we're past that point, right?

SPEAKER_04

No, I'm too old for that.

SPEAKER_01

You know, it's not all about that though, right?

SPEAKER_04

No, no, but yeah, no, I've heard a lot of people that um enjoy the sauna. There's a lot of benefits to it. I just don't know all the details about it, but I know when we used to do it, yeah, it felt good to get you know, after you get out. I don't know, it just kind of like endorphins too. It re-energized me or something, and it just made me feel good for the rest of the day.

SPEAKER_01

Um and sweating, I mean, yeah, the only way to get rid of like excess like hormones is to sweat, poop, pee, right? Like all those good stuff, but I I think we don't talk about it enough.

SPEAKER_04

No, what about toxins in our body? Like we have, I mean, we have toxins, right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, what do you do to get rid of toxins? Like I said, um, the sauna, jumping, the um the the viplate. Um, I also take glutathione too. Okay, yeah. I don't know if you guys are familiar with that. No, master antioxidant. Oh so it helps with your your immune system. It also helps like if you get concussions, so it decreases your overall inflammation too, so it allows your body just to work now a lot better.

SPEAKER_04

What if I've had a history of concussions?

SPEAKER_01

It wouldn't hurt. Okay. Do you do you take um fish oil?

SPEAKER_04

No, I don't take anything really. I don't need to.

SPEAKER_00

We're really bad at that. Really bad. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Because I've had a history of concussions. Uh-huh. Um, and so I don't know long term what that's gonna look like. Um, but you know, you hear about athletes, you know, of course, different my injuries became from the military, not from being an athlete, but same concept, you know, you get hit in the head, whatever. Um, and you hear stories about like football players, CTE.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_04

Um, I don't know to the extent of where I am. Obviously, I'm not a doctor, whatever. I've had CAT scans in the past, whatever, and um I know that there's times where I don't feel the same. Like I get like woozy, I get like nauseous, whatever. Those are like physical, like you know, um things that happen to me, but long term I don't know. So that's kind of interesting that you say what you just mentioned right now. If you've had concussions before, so I need to look into that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. And it's it's only gonna do you good, honestly. Um like a good fish oil.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I've heard that. My doctor, yeah, doctors have recommended fish oil, but I don't do it for some reason. I need to.

SPEAKER_01

You know, there's a new supplement too that's coming out. Um, there's more about have you heard of a C15? Yeah, I've heard of C15. Yeah, so that's that's been helpful too for those fruit concussions. Actually, MCT oil is supposed to be really helpful too, just to keep your brain online.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I'm gonna I'm definitely gonna look into that because um it that's something that worries me. You know, as I get older, who knows?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no, it's it's it's it definitely is gonna catch up to you in some way. Yeah, the whole point is just slowing it down and letting it make less of an impact on your life, right?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I mean, as it is, it when you get older, we start to forget things, and that's normal. But now or oh yeah, or I don't know. Is it I don't know, maybe not, right?

SPEAKER_00

Um I like the way you think.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, so that's things to think about, yeah. Um, and anything else that you can add, or is there anything else you want to share about anything?

SPEAKER_01

Anything else I want to share about anything? I don't know. I I I could share a lot about everything.

SPEAKER_04

Any any uh any shows you're watching right now? Any binge watching?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I love a good like murder mystery documentary. Okay, like I've really been into like the curious case. Oh yeah, I haven't heard that one the curious case of whatever.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I've seen that.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my gosh. There's this one that I just saw. There was this town where it was 16 young females who were developing Tourette syndrome. Oh, oh, in one school, okay, and uh a town in New York, uh-huh. Yeah, they they got Tourette syndrome and they were trying to figure out what it was. Like, was there there there was like some sort of chemical spill like 40 years back? Oh, okay, but then they're like they rule that out, and they're like, maybe it's something psychological. So like they still kind of don't know what it was, but they so it's like all these mysteries, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

It's a lot of mysteries, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, um, but yeah, like the and also you know, the tried and true just like murder cases. Yeah, those are always fun too. Yeah, I'm a code.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, what's your show? Um, you know what? Uh CSI was when we first started. Yeah, we watched a lot of CSI back in the day. Um, what is that show that we watch and it Which one?

SPEAKER_04

What's it about? I can't think of it.

SPEAKER_00

It's about crimes, it's about murders, it's about uh there's tons of those. There is. No, I can't think of it. I I'm gonna have to come back to it. You need some MCT oils. Thank you. Yes, I can't think about yeah, but there is a lot of crime shows that I love.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Um, have you watched any World Cup?

SPEAKER_01

I know not everybody's in soccer, but you know, I I should, honestly, because my dad never misses anything. Yeah. Um, but maybe because I watched it so much growing up, I'm kind of like, you know, I I just get the the details from you know the the storylines and or the uh news. But um no, I'm I don't who I don't I don't even know.

SPEAKER_04

No, I mean not everybody's into soccer. I was just kind of curious.

SPEAKER_01

I always just went to Art for Argentina because my dad didn't like Argentina.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, so you want to be against your dad?

SPEAKER_01

I was a forever a heel, right? Yeah, so I'm like, who are you going for? Or Argentina's gonna win.

SPEAKER_04

Oh yeah, I I think a lot of people right now are not going for Argentina.

SPEAKER_01

They're very upset about Argentina already.

SPEAKER_04

They're a hate they're a very hated team.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, they they've always had been.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. So I'm gonna pick uh I'm gonna pick Norway.

SPEAKER_01

Norway.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Norway is one of those teams where something they're like Vikings or whatever.

SPEAKER_01

Is is France still in?

SPEAKER_04

I don't know. France is still, yeah, it's France, Spain, Norway, Argentina. I think that's it. I think it's I think it's down to four.

SPEAKER_01

So my brother asked chat GPT, and he said France was gonna win. So I win with France.

SPEAKER_04

I know they had said that France and Spain were some of the favorites, yeah, of course, along with Argentina, but you never know though. As long as it's not Argentina, I'll be happy.

SPEAKER_01

That's the one I said. I never know.

SPEAKER_04

And I'm not even a big soccer guy. I just uh you know, World Cup comes every four years, so yeah. People get into it, it's a party, it's an event. So that's the only reason that we've been watching it. Uh, but on a day-to-day, yeah, we don't watch soccer.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and it's hard because I feel like it's like randomly throughout the day, too. Like, right?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it is, it is like and and I know in the workplace, I know I see people watching the games during, and you know, there's nothing wrong with that. I think I just go by and say, Argentina. Yeah. Our team was out, of course.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah, we're done. On Sunday, they were done.

SPEAKER_04

They were done. Mexico, they they had a good run, but and then USA the next day.

SPEAKER_00

The next day.

SPEAKER_04

Um, so we're like, dude, we're done. But uh, I don't know. I like Norway. We'll see how that goes. But um, well, Vanessa, thank you so much for for joining us here today. Any last words or anything?

SPEAKER_01

Do what you can, guys. Yeah, you know, it's never too late. You can always do better.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, and so Vendetta Pro Wrestling, are they out of here?

SPEAKER_01

So they were. They they recently had a name change. Okay. So they're PWG.

SPEAKER_04

PWG. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And is it oh sorry, PW. Pro Wrestling Unplugged.

SPEAKER_04

SPEAKER_01

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and that was the first thing she said. We just don't know.

SPEAKER_04
